The back wall of the kitchen is all about cooking. I chose traditional oiled-bronze cabinetry hardware to pick up the color of the marble tile backsplash and dark wood island. #candiceolson
Choosing a Chandelier
CHOOSING A CHANDELIER #3: I like using crystal chandeliers because of the way light is captured in the crystal beading and elements. In a room with a lot of natural light, this fixture looks just as spectacular during the day as it does at night.

Q: What is the one thing I should do to update my space? A: Without exception, lighting is one of the most important design elements in a space. It doesn't matter how much time, effort and money that goes into the design of a room, without the proper lighting, it's all time, energy and money wasted. Great lighting is what turns a ho-hum space into a breath-taking space and that makes the beautiful elements in a space come to life!
This home was loaded with charm. The homeowners wanted to update it, yet keep some traditional elements that gave it the personality they loved. First, we visually expanded the space by opening up the archway to the dining room. Traditional elements like crystal, paisley motifs and stained glass provide loads of charisma. #candiceolson
This space was all about striking a balance between traditional and modern. And balancing color was key. Yellow textile accents soften the black and ivory palette, adding a playful attitude. #candiceolson
Being a pass-through to the stairway, this dining room was the smallest in which I've worked. Creative use of custom-fit banquettes created an intimate dining area, allowing ample access to the stairway. Who would have guessed this space would be the favorite part of their renovation? #candiceolson
Too much is never enough when it comes to storage in a busy family room. We flanked their fireplace with shelving to hold bunnies, bongo drums and baubles.

By its very nature, a kitchen with all of its hard and shiny surfaces can feel cold and sterile. The comfort and intimacy created by the use of mid- level and decorative lighting like chandeliers and pendants is one of the keys to adding visual warmth. http://www.aflighting.com/candice_olson/Default.aspx
