Werner Hoffmann (7 August 1920 – 7 February 1945) was a highly decorated Hauptmann in the Luftwaffe during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Werner Hoffmann was killed on 7 February 1945 over Frankfurt an der Oder. Walter "Gulle" Oesau (28 June 1913 – 11 May 1944) served in the Luftwaffe from 1934 until his death scoring 127 kills. He served with the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War, claiming 8 aircraft during the campaign, earning the Spanish Cross in Gold and Diamonds. He flew with JG 20, JG 51 and was designated Geschwaderkommodore of JG 1. He was killed in action on 11 May 1944 aged 30. JG 1 was given the suffix "Oesau" in his honor.
