Mies van der Rohe clearly incorporated the lessons he learned from studying the oeuvre of Karl Friedrich Schinkel. In the work of Schinkel most of the buildings are not approached in a axial/frontal way but parallel to the main facade as can be seen in the staircase leading from the park up to the villa garden of the Charlottenhof Palace in Potsdam. This same principle is clearly visible in most of the projects of Mies van der Rohe such as the Tugendhat House in Brno in the Czech Republic.
