Measurement tips by RenzRags on Etsy, $1.00:
Most patterns are cut too low under the arm. Deciding where the armhole hits under the arm is partially personal preference. An armhole cut high up under the arm is generally more comfortable because it allows a greater range of movement. A sleeveless garment is only 1/2" higher under the arm than a fitted garment with a sleeve. Hold a ruler under your arm as high as comfortably possible, the underarm seamline should fall barely below where the ruler is touching the flesh. #9) Lengthen back rise: If your pants are snugging up too much under the butt and giving you a wedgie, lengthen the back rise by making a few horizontal cuts across the crotch (keeping the side seam attached as a hinge), and spread them out. If the side seam dents inward too much, you may need to redraw the hip curve. Sewing Patterns, Sewing Pants, Trousers Pattern, Altering Pants, Pants Pattern
