For kids, use a small rubber mallet. They really get jazzed about smashing the plants and seeing the results, also a great lesson on cause/effect. Also try different absorbent materials like paper towels, muslim, paper etc... We did a make your own t-shirt art project one time, the kids loved wearing their own creation. Great for Creation Day 3!
