Along with its passengers and crew, twelve dogs were also onboard Titanic. The twelve canines were brought onboard by ten of Titanic’s First Class passengers and their families, including John Jacob Astor. Out of the twelve dogs onboard only three survived, a Pekinese and two Pomeranians.   The Pomeranians were brought onto lifeboats by their mistreses, Margaret Hays and Mrs Elizabeth Barrett Rothschild.  A Pekinese named Sun Yat Sen was saved by his master,  Henry S. Harper, in Lifeboat 3.

Clarence H. Mackay (c. 1910) with his children Ellin (Mrs. Irving Berlin), Katherine and John W. Their mother, Katherine Duer Mackay was an intimate of Consuelo Vanderbilt and her mother Alva Belmont. The three of them would be among the most prominent members of society to actively support women's suffrage.

The children are John William Mackay, Ellin Mackay, and Katherine Mackay: Ellin Mackay married Irving Berlin in Clarence disapproved, and he threatened disinheritance. Ellin Berlin became a novelist.
