Kermit the Frog, about 1970. The creation of the master puppeteer Jim Henson, Kermit the Frog is recognized worldwide as the star of the children's public television program Sesame Street. Kermit first came to the Smithsonian in 1979 for an exhibition in honor of the show's tenth anniversary. In 1994 Jim Henson Productions converted the loan to a gift, making Kermit a permanent member of the popular culture collection.
