Malcolm Campbell. Holder of land and water speed records. Born Chislehurst, Kent. He broke the land speed record for the first time in 1924 and went on to break it a further nine times (five at Daytona Beach, Florida). His highest water speed record was 141.74 m.p.h. in 1939. Died at Reigate, Surrey.

Sir Malcolm Campbell became the first man to break the 150 mph land barrier, at Pendine Sands in Wales on this day 21st July, 1925, when he drove a Sunbeam at a two-way average speed of 150.33 mph. His son, Donald Campbell, carried on the family tradition by later holding both land speed and water speed records
