I have never, ever seen a vintage maternity photo like this. I've very rarely seen any.

photos by Jacques Henri Lartigue

1860's I have never seen a skirt and blouse this big before. I wonder if the woman is pregnant? They would hike their skirt over the stomach until the last few months, which was called "their time of confinement". I guess people knowing that you were pregnant was wrong? What on earth did they think babies came from?

Early-mid 1860's photograph. Beautiful ringlet hair. My guess is that is a knitted sweater adapted to that women's preference. It's so neat!

A wonderful CDV of a glowing mother to be and her husband. You can see how her large coat is concealing her pregnant condition. The rear of the card says, "Taken 1 Week before Willie was born." It's a boy! Pass out the cigars dad. Card has rubbing, and wear around the edges. Foxing on rear and black stain like an old tintype had been pressed against it. The happy couple were photographed by Wm. Latour, Sedalia, Missouri.
