Robe à la Française Date: ca. 1770 Culture: French Medium: silk The MET
MFA: White ground with horizontal interlacing serpentines of ribbon and flowers, brocaded with polychrome silks, English back, square neck trimmed with self folds, short sleeves with double sleeve ruffle. Worn by Sarah Tyng Smith at her marriage to Richard Codman in Portland, Maine, Febuary 23, 1763.
