A ninth plate ruby ambrotype of this young rebel soldier with piercing dark eyes. This image recently surfaced out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Dressed in this very simple homespun butternut jacket which looks to be of some very shoddy material. The image is incredibly clear enough to see the flower design on the brass buttons on the front of the jacket. Most certainly an early war volunteer, with no ID unfortunately. Image is housed in a somewhat beat up thermoplastic case.
