Charles IV (1316-1378), Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia who is regarded by Czechs as „Father of the Country“. Prague as it looks now owes a lot to him. Literate and fluent in five languages including Latin, Czech, German, French and Italian. His reign is considered to be the Golden Age of Bohemia as he organized the empire into peacekeeping states.

The century, in particular, the reign of the Czech king Charles IV who also became the King of Italy, King of the Romans and Holy Roman Emperor, is considered the Golden Age of Czech history.
