This is one of my favorite knife forms. I found this 2.9 inch long unifacial knife form in 1975 on the forest floor in the Rawhide Butte area of Goshen County, Wyoming. The material looks classic Hartville Uplift dendritic jasper or possibly petrified wood. Who made it? I cannot even hazard a guess what culture or time frame for this unifacial knife form. I do know I will never find another one quite like it. John Branney Collection.

Flint Blade. During the Stone Age, flint tools were made by “knapping.” A process where one hard object is used to strike another hard object such as flint stone to create a shape or form. Flint was a natural choice as it splits when struck forming sharp splinters called flakes or blades. Location: Guerrero State, Mexico | Circa Date: 300 BC.
