Evening dress, Worth, 1885-1886. Scarlet silk damask in chrysanthemum pattern; blood red satin; 18th-century cream bobbin lace; red ostrich feathers. The innovative use of modular components is particularly apparent here. Worth's popular contoured bodice is a focal feature, playfully accented by his use of contrasting, asymmetrical shoulders. The combination of blood red satin and scarlet damask is slenderizing.
