Sphinx at Sunrise - Viewed from 3rd Sphinx temple. Constructed by Amenhotep II, 18th Dynasty, New Kingdom. Restored by Piankhi, 25th Dynasty, Neo New Kingdom. Intentionally damaged by Psamtik I, 26th Dynasty, Late Period. Psamtik's grandfather, Bakenrenef was burned to death by Shabaka (Piankhi's brother) for treason for conspiring with the Assyrians (Hyksos-Heqa Khaset). This may by why Psamtik defaced so many 25th Dynasty temples after he was installed as proxy for the Asssyrians in 664 BCE.
