Charter of Freedoms and Exemptions, 1629. The Dutch West India Company granted large tracts of land in New Netherland to any person who would buy the land from the natives and bring fifty or more settlers (older than 15) at his own expense to settle the land. The DWIC would also supply them with slaves. In exchange, the DWIC would control all trade (including furs) going into and out of the area.
