Jadeite. Type A jadeite is an untreated natural Burmese jadeite where the color is 100% natural. The rarest most valuable jadeite is called the imperial jade, coloured by traces of chromium. It has color and transparency rivaling fine emeralds (slightly more yellow in tone than emerald). Traditional Chinese jade is called nephrite. There are large deposits of nephrite, but not jadeite. It averages USD $3M/carat

Until recent years jadeite has been something of a mystery mineral, but we now know of primary sources in Guatemala as well as several California occurrences of white or grayish jadeite.
