In 1974, a UH student released eight Madagascar-native Gold Dust Day Geckos. Today, these geckos can be found on most of the main Hawaiian islands. If you've ever seen them, chances are you've noticed the males beefing it out...they are extremely territorial. In addition to insects, these diurnal creatures will lap up nectar. They are pretty but being an introduced species, they compete with indigenous creatures for food and habitat. Photo credit Evan Tector (via SF Gate)
