Posing proudly for the camera, they were young soldiers excitedly preparing for the adventure of war. The photos are now part of an archive of 2,000 predominantly military prints that has been hidden from public view for decades.

The Thuillier collection contains photographs taken in Vignacourt during WW 1.  It covers many of the significant aspects of Australian involvement on the Western Front, from military life to the friendships and bonds formed between the soldiers and civilians.  Captured on glass, printed into postcards and posted home, the photographs made by the Thuillier family enabled Australian soldiers to maintain a fragile link with loved ones in Australia.
