This is an incredible find. It came from the estate of a family that had three sons who fought in WW1. There was a trunk packed full of some of the uniforms and gear they returned home with which probably wasn't opened again until last year. I checked it out with the curator of a local military museum and he verified the provenance. So, I don't know what else to say. Someone carried this in battle. Maps? orders? plans...don't know, but it was obviously valuable considering the amazing construction and craftmanship. It is a heavy leather that doesn't bend. There is a hinged lid with strap close, and another longer strap for carrying or attaching it to something. The best part is that there are the soldiers Initials and name on the handle strap. D.W. M Please see photos. it measures 10 by 4
