This week, 3rd grade started their Henri Rousseau & Cassie Stephens inspired tigers! Here's Mr. Rousseau's painting we're getting inspiration from! Hey, friends! A while ago, I created a Chris Uphues-inspired video for my sub to use. Because my classes are either 30 minutes in length or an hour, the video is broken up a bit. For example, as you watch, you'll see that my 30 minute kids learn about Chris and then do some sketching on dry erase boards before tackling paper. Third grade used warm and cool colors and pattern to create these tempera paintings. The students viewed artwork by native people and how their hand print was not only a record of who they were or where they had traveled, but also a way to sign their art. The students each used their hand prints to sign their paintings. Notice how the warm colors (red, orange, and yellow) advance and the cool colors (blue, green, and violet) recede? This is new project for third grade this year. They learned a lot about value and how to use watercolor to create the illusion of a three dimensional object. We drew the donuts by tracing a can for the large circle and a bottle lid for the center. We added a couple of lines to give them depth, then began painting, using a darker version and a lighter version of the same color. I think they turned out deliciously!! :)
