This week, 3rd grade started their Henri Rousseau & Cassie Stephens inspired tigers! Here's Mr. Rousseau's painting we're getting inspiration from! Tiger in a Tropical Storm Here's how we created ours! My first two 3rd grade classes painted a couple of sheets of orange painted paper, and then the rest of the classes were able to draw their tigers, and make some green painted paper for the rest of the project! We're going to be making a collage on blue or black paper, by creating these tigers…

3rd/4th/5th: Peter Max hearts. also a couple videos on artist. valentines Valentines Art Lessons, Square One Art, Square 1 Art, Peter Max Art, 3rd Grade Art Lesson, February Art, Third Grade Art, Heart Art Projects, Valentine Art Projects

My ALL TIME FAVORITE artist to teach is... PETER MAX! I love his painterly style... I am a painter myself, and just love his quick blendy brush strokes! I have been doing this lesson for over a decade... not every year, not exactly the same way, but it never gets old. I start the motivation for this lesson with two short video's I found on You Tube. Here they are... Each video is about 5 minutes long. Once the kids watch these, they can't wait to get brushes in their hands!!! Have fun…

Think Drawing, Tin Foil Art, Sharpie Drawings, Sharpie Doodles, Men Tattoos, Elementary Art Projects, Tin Foil, Homeschool Art, Foil Art

I learned this technique from my co-worker Jayne, who taught it during summer school last year. I think drawing on tin foil is a unique experience for kids that can be done using a variety of themes! My third and fourth graders had a great time making these abstract drawings using Sharpie markers on tin foil. To prepare the surface, pull out a sheet of tin foil and carefully flatten it on to a piece of cardboard or matboard. Tape … Read more... →

Cassie Stephens: In the Art Room: Chris Uphues Lesson for All! Chris Uphues, February Art, Art On A Cart, Third Grade Art, Heart Art Projects, Drawing Heart, Winter Art Lesson, Cassie Stephens, Valentine Art Projects

Hey, friends! A while ago, I created a Chris Uphues-inspired video for my sub to use. Because my classes are either 30 minutes in length or an hour, the video is broken up a bit. For example, as you watch, you'll see that my 30 minute kids learn about Chris and then do some sketching on dry erase boards before tackling paper. My older kids did this too...and then about 30 minutes in, met on the floor again to view the rest of the video. As I've said before, I LOVE having my students sketch…

Third grade used warm and cool colors and pattern to create these tempera paintings. The students viewed artwork by native people and how their hand print was not only a record of who they were or where they had traveled, but also a way to sign their art. The students each used their hand prints to sign their paintings. Notice how the warm colors (red, orange, and yellow) advance and the cool colors (blue, green, and violet) recede? This color effect creates an optical illusion. The boys and…

This is new project for third grade this year. They learned a lot about value and how to use watercolor to create the illusion of a three dimensional object. We drew the donuts by tracing a can for the large circle and a bottle lid for the center. We added a couple of lines to give them depth, then began painting, using a darker version and a lighter version of the same color. I think they turned out deliciously!! :)
