The weather has turned now & Summer is a distant memory. We have had a wet week here in Lincolnshire & have spent some beautiful days inside baking & doing crafts. ~ I have a love of old pieces of furniture. This is the hand carved top of a wall cupboard in our parlour dated 1640. June is the noisiest month of the year in the garden, from the first light birdsong fills the air giving a true sense of the garden being alive. Thrushes & young Blackbirds are abundant especially after a heavy shower of rain, they scratch about beneath bushes & the large Magnolia tree looking to see what may be found there. Summer is starting to fade, the wheat is golden in the fields & leaves are starting to turn. You can feel the freshness in the breeze, Autumn will soon be upon us. The farmers are in the fields around us harvesting, another growing year has finished. ~ We have been very busy at the cottage, even more so now we are home schooling the twins. Yesterday we had a lovely day out at The Black Country Museum which is just over 2 1/2 hours away from us. This is a living museum where you find many cottages, small houses & a town all set in a time long ago. Travelling through Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire farmers were busy in the fields harvesting. ~ I made Rock Cakes to take on our picnic tea. ~ 8 oz self raising flour 1 tsp nutmeg 4 oz margarine & 4oz sugar 4 oz sultanas & 3 oz chopped dried apricots 2 eggs beaten ~ Rub the margarine…
