I am a textile artist based in North Lancashire, UK. I create three-dimensional embroidered artwork inspired by flowers, insects and historical artefacts.

Sometimes an artist needs some inspiration.

This delicate vibrant butterfly wing is a mesmerising embroidery with intricate detail. Working quite often from the back means, you can’t always predict what the outcome will be at the front. The fragility lays in the holes created in the stitching, giving it a feeling of decay. My work explores how to replicate nature’s beauty with thread, either in bloom or decayed, with textures, mismatches, colours, layers and light. 60 x 45 cm unframed 72x 72 cm Floating in round frame

Sharon's TAST stitch for this week is the Palestrina Stitch. It is also known as Tied Coral Stitch, Old English Knot Stitch, Double Knot Stitch, Smyrna Stitch, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are other names as well!
