The Steam Wench's Salon: Simple Steampunk Leather Stitchery - How to make simple cases to attach gadgets to your belt.

Greetings, good folks. I realize it has been a long time since I've posted. Manfred, do fetch our good readers some lemonade. This is a brief little summertime show-and-tell sort of post, to show you my solution upon finding myself finally in possession of some lovely little brass doodads (at long last!), with no way of attaching them to my belt. And one evening, sitting at home, I found myself staring at these little items, a brass magnifying glass, a pocket sundial and compass, and a…

For my first foray into steampunk, my character is a seamstress. In this post I’m sharing how I made the thread spool bandolier, as it is the focal point of all my steampunk accessories. My husband loves to make steampunk props and he came up with a very interesting one for me. He made me a voice stealing gun. He hammered out a copper flare for the end of the gun and shaped all the wood parts. The gun breaks down into 2 parts for easy carrying. Inside the gun is the parts to a recordable and re-recordable greeting card. When I hold down the button on the side of the gun it records whoever I am near and when I pull the trigger it plays back the sound. I love this gun, but…

a pair of shorts with buttons on the side hanging from a belt that is attached to a wall

My latest DIY project is making a steampunk pocket belt from an old pair of cargo pants. A while ago I made this steampunk belt from an old pair of shorts. I wanted something nice to wear over my longer more formal dresses that I could hang gadgets off and put passes and money inside.…

Diary of a Wandering Costumer: Making a Teacup Holster

When we dress for steampunk and if we are not wearing specific outfits (for example the Alice in Wonderland or vampire outfits), my husband usually wears a pretty basic gentleman's dress (vest, hat and cane required). Most of our outfits are very specific and and have very specific props, but it is nice to have a fairly basic outfit that one can easily throw on. Of course then the accessories become super important. Since tea dueling is so popular in steampunk circles, one should always have…

It's all fine and good to have a pistol at the ready to protect yourself, but it becomes awkward carrying it all the time. As a result, I decided I needed a holster. I began by following the directions here to make the pattern for the holster. I did have to modify it some since I wasn't using…
