Cast stone using reverse method. Incorporated wire mesh and "fuzzy" concrete (fiberglass fibers). Seal top and sides (not bottom) annually with quality concrete sealer. No cracking or chipping to date. Think longevity is due to stone sitting on gravel bed vs. soil. 2nd experimental stone that was set directly on soil started to get serious cracks & flaking on bottom within couple yrs. Probably due to moisture retention during freeze/thaw cycles.
