Squirrel Monkey

Summer is my favorite time of year to visit the Bonnet House. The brutal South Florida heat keeps away the crowds of people and it's much easier to photograph the shy Brazilian squirrel monkeys that reside on the grounds. The Humboldt's Squirrel Monkey (Samiri cassiquiarensis) is a species of squirrel monkey from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. They get their name because of their ability to run through the trees like squirrels. They're upper legs, or thighs, are shorter than their calves. This lets them leap far.
