L-19 February continues with... 'Worse, the winds have buffeted the wooden box in such a way to loosen its lid. My relief from the Smalls Lighthouse is still more than three weeks away. I do not see how I can retain my sanity for such a length of time. All that is left to me is to pray to The Good Lord for my soul. And I hope that, safely abed in Mathry Parish, my beloved wife prays to the Lord, too.'

The Smalls Lighthouse is the most remote lighthouse in England and Wales, it is located about 21 miles offshore from St David's Head in Pembrokeshire. The current tower is the second one to stand on the reef, it took two years to build (very quick for a rock tower) and was completed in 1861. Smalls Lighthouse, Pembrokeshire, Wales, was erected in 1861 to replace a previous lighthouse which had been erected in 1776 on the same rock. It was completed in 1861. In 1978 a helideck was erected above the lantern and in 1987 the lighthouse was automated. It is the first wind- and solar-powered lighthouse in the UK. Although it has only a 35-watt bulb, with the aid of lenses, this can be seen up to 34km away.

Managed to borrow a boat to get me here. The little Cumbrae is a small relatively inaccessible island on the west coast of Scotland. Very few people get the chance to walk round here, which is a shame.
