Guest Post: Paper Stars / Jar of Stars Craft

Also dubbed "Lucky Paper Stars" or simply "Paper Stars", I was first introduced to this when exploring Chinatown in downtown Toronto with a friend. We entered this cute stationary shop and came across an entire shelf FILLED with "jars of stars". My kawaii (Japanese for "cute") friend showed me how to make these stars, which involve a few simple folds with a long piece of paper. {source} I started with horrible chubby stars, but with more practice, they became effortless. Some stores sell paper specific to making these stars, and you can find them in most Asian stationary shops (e.g. the ones that sell sanrio products... like hello kitty plushies, and other little trinkets). Step 1: Pick a Jar! {source} {source} {source} {source} Step 2: Fill it with stars! I start with a piece of paper 7 mm in width, and 15 cm in length. These are not strict measurements and there are even techniques available to fold the paper stars using straws. Here's a tutorial I put together (font used was passing notes, photos with my iPhone 5, and pictures enhanced with Photoshop CS5) for Rock, Paper, Scissors, Craft! Another thought I just had after completing this, I really should have painted my nails or something. Horrendous!! -- Straw stars look like this: Thanks for reading! When she's not reading up on Orthopaedics and seeing patients at clinic, she's web and graphic designing, on Pinterest, or catching up on the latest movies. She has a mini-obsession with cupcake couture, and is an avid gym-goer. Her dreams include being a home organisation guru, joining an acapella group and travelling the world!
