"Shōgorō" can be read as "ghost gong" or "gong goro," depending on the translation. It is a type of tsukumogami, a yōkai inhibitating a regular object. A frequent part of Bhuddist services, a shōgo is a gong struck with a mallet. When such an instrument no longer carries a pristine sound, it may be retired. And later, it may awaken as a yōkai.
