A few of these robust perennials bloom as early as June, but most wait until August or September when the rest of the garden is waning. Eastern Sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale) Helenium Autumnale, Washington Native Plants, Tough Perennials, Fae Garden, Yellow Landscape, Value Study, Summer Planting, Flower Dome, Wildlife Garden

Our local Eastern species of sneezeweed, which unjustly shares with goldenrod the false accusation of causing hay-fever. Showy flowers are built to draw pollinators, and the pollen must therefore be sticky. The ragweeds are the most serious cause of hay-fever at the time these bloom. This species has been crossed with a few other Helenium spp., resulting in hybrids exhibiting colors ranging from yellow through brick red.
