Helenium autumnale (Sneezeweed) is an upright, clump-forming perennial bringing weeks of color in late summer and fall when many other perennials are starting to fade. Its erect, branching stems are clothed with slender, lance-shaped, dark green leaves, 6 in. long (15 cm), and topped with eye-catching daisy flowers.

This is another long lasting Sneezeweed that is great for cut flowers. We have this one planted right across the path from a bright red one, 'Red Jewel'. The two of them create a nice contrast and anchor this part of the garden because of their long bloom season, about 2 months. Our local Eastern species of sneezeweed, which unjustly shares with goldenrod the false accusation of causing hay-fever. Showy flowers are built to draw pollinators, and the pollen must therefore be sticky. The ragweeds are the most serious cause of hay-fever at the time these bloom. This species has been crossed with a few other Helenium spp., resulting in hybrids exhibiting colors ranging from yellow through brick red.
