Last week, we did research and prepared a brooder box for the ducklings' 6 week stay indoors. It is a two layer system (for ease of cleaning) equipped with a 250 watt lamp for warmth and a feather duster for comfort. As you can see, they love to cuddle under the warmth of the feathers. A view of my brooder from the top. I built a small perch set up out of some 1x3's I had laying around. You can see the heater in the back, perch on the right, and the feeders up front. I built a small platform for the feeders to reduce the amount of pine shavings being kicked into the food and water.

Outdoor Chick Brooder

This is our outdoor brooder. 2'x4' with two levels. During cold or rainy weather the tarp comes over the front for extra protection, leaving only the right side wall open for the heat lamp to warm the chicks.
