In this article, I'm sharing a few of the odd planting methods I use to keep plants growing in, around, and over my chicken coop. Growing the chicken-friendly plants, flowers, and shrubs in my chicken run prevents erosion, promotes flock health, and provides supplemental feed.

I'm in love with the herb garden I created for the perimeter of the chicken run. Although a lot of false information is spread around about Chicken coops and herb gardens, I enjoy it for many reasons. Everything that's planted is healthy for the flock so they can help keep up with any overgrowth coming from the plants. I included herbs and flowers like: basil, parsely, marigolds, and cucumbers. I planted quite a few cucumber plants to provide shade as the vines grow up the chicken wire.
