Dr. Jacob Van Den Meerendonk, PT, DPT on Instagram: "This is mainly for acute neck pain, but could also help for more chronic issues as well.

I woke up the other day having slept awkwardly on my side. I could feel a pinch in my neck the second I woke up and it got progressively worse over the next hour. I could not turn more than 50% of the way to the left. So I started doing these “owl rotations” about 10-20 of them every half hour. Within roughly 2-3 hours my neck pain was nearly gone and range-of-motion was restored.

I’ve given this exercise out to many clients with much success, and wanted to share it with all of you!

We’re trying to get the facet joints of the cervical spine to glide normally, but many times the muscles and nerves are causing a pinch and preventing the movement.
