Smoking Blue Wizard Head

Whimsical Blue Wizard Incense Burner. He'll burn both cone incense and backflow incense. He was super fun to make. I'm slightly obsessed with backflow incense. Love the way it just flows down the wizards hat. When burning the cone incense the smoke will stream out of his mouth. Place the cone directly under his open mouth. This little guy is high fired, he's sculpted from white porcelain then cold glazed after the final firing. He'll ship with a small bag of incense, both cones and backflow incense.

Natalie Blake Ceramic Artist | Artful Home

Ceramicist Natalie Blake credits her first influence in college, Susan Balboni, who referred to the vessel as a spirit keeper. The concept of the vessel as the safeguard of the space inside is prevalent in all of Blake's work.Returning to the thrown vessel time after time, Blake is always entranced by the possibility of capturing the poise and vibrancy of clay as it expands outwards on the wheel. She has worked with the lidded vessel for the past fourteen years, always interested in giving voice to subconscious experiences through free drawing on the thrown vessel. By using the thrown form as canvas, images are influenced by the same intuitive tools used to create three-dimensional as well as two-dimensional expressions. The particular curves of the thrown piece influence the movement of the pencil over soft clay.Blake's pieces are thrown, carved, fired with stone-matte surfaces in rich colors, and finished with hand built lids in porcelain. Her carving is inspired by aquatic, botanical, industrial, and mythical elements. The sculptural components and layered colors create a lush depth of surface, an inviting texture, and a sense of three-dimensional space. Her carving has been referenced to folded fabric, conjuring the image of expandability through breath. Creating a piece that conveys fullness and ripeness is what satisfies the artist.

Super strange sculptures only the dark and demented could love

“Home Haunter,” porcelain, fur, gold luster, china paint by Shary Boyle, 2015 That’s not to say, of course, that if you’re not as dark and demented as yours truly, that you won’t also be drawn to these gorgeous yet strange ceramic sculptures by Canadian artist, Shary Boyle. But it might help. Boyle has worked with a number of musical artists during her career, like the equally out-there Peaches and Feist. While her CV isn’t limited to sculpture (Boyle works in nearly every medium), it is her bizarre, yet enchanting sculptures that caught my eye today. Boyle’s strange ceramics, while compelling to look at, also attempt to convey powerful messages on such topics as social equality, eroticism and the emotional turmoil that we as human beings are subjected to existing in this world together. What I love most about Boyle’s off-kilter ceramics, in addition to their heavy ideas, is that they are at times somewhat amusing (to me anyway). Like her piece “Bless You,” which features a creepy white porcelain hand, with an drastically elongated middle finger pointed straight at the sky. “Home Haunter,” back view “The Dandy Widow,” 2009 “Untitled,” 2005 “Bless You,” 2014 ...
