Boardwalk at night

he’d tried so hard to fit in to the routine town. he’d gone to the county fair with the group of kids he tried to be like. he’d screamed on the rides, drank overpriced and unsatisfactory food, but in the end he found himself alone on the beach, the bright lights and laughter on the horizon. he found himself all alone and so much happier because time after time, though he tried, no one could ever make him smile like she could, and she was gone, forever.
