St. Josephine Bakhita was kidnapped as a young girl in Sudan and sold as a slave. She suffered bullying and hardship under different masters. One took her to Italy where she met the Canossian Sisters. She learned about Jesus and became a nun later. She led a holy life of humility, service and charity, inspiring everyone especially her African people. She also forgave her captors and those who caused her much suffering. She is the patron saint of Sudan. Her feast day is on 8 February. St Benedict the Black (1526-89) was the son of African slaves taken to Sicily and converted. They lived so humbly that the owner freed Benedict. He day labored, shared wages with poor, cared for sick. At 21, he met a nobleman who became a monk. Benedict gave all to the poor and joined. Angels often helped him cook and food multiplied in his hands. His face often shone with celestial light, especially praying. He died after an illness at the very hour he'd predicted.
