Paris is transforming an utterly urban area along the River Seine to a cleaner, greener space. A new Left Bank promenade called the Berges de Seine (Banks of the Seine) was unveiled last month, and is quickly drawing crowds of walkers, cyclists and urbanites seeking a bit of nature.
Polish artist Adam Kalinowski created "The Dream City" to bring people together and enjoy the outdoors. The installation is made of 30 tons of colored sand and invites you to explore a variety of weights, sand, colors and patterns that may arise during your barefoot walk through the project. The rest is a matter of your imagination.
The Swings: An Exercise in Musical Cooperation, is a public art installation created by design studio Daily Tous Les Jours. Each swing represents one of four musical instruments, and when people swing in synchronicity, melodies composed by Radwan Ghazi Moumneh emerge through cooperation.
This installation, built using 5,000 soda cans, functioned as benches to sit on. The upcycled pieces aimed to serve as an example for sustainability, not ending up in the trash afterwards, like other temporary structures. When the expo finished, the containers were returned to the soda company to continue their original use and function.
