The Great Nebula in Orion is a intriguing place. Visible to the unaided eye, it appears as a small fuzzy patch in the constellation of Orion. But this image, an illusory-color composite of four colors of infrared light taken with the Earth orbiting WISE observatory, shows the Orion Nebula to be a bustling neighborhood or recently formed stars, hot gas, and dark dust.

The Carina Nebula (NGC 3324) is a 3-light-year tall pillar of gas and dust surrounding several clusters of stars. Eta Carina & HD 93129A, two of the most massive & luminous stars in the Milky Way, are among them. About 10,000 ly away, it is one of the largest nebulae ever seen (larger & brighter than the Orion nebula) the top is a 3-ly-tall pillar of cool hydrogen being worn away by the radiation of nearby stars.
