He Documented Atrocities (1943)    Sgt. William A Scott, III -- was a military photographer with the 183rd Engineer Combat Battalion   Concentration Camp.His photographs recorded African-American soldiers at the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Scott's pictures are now part of a video record of the liberation of Buchenwald on display at the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.

1945, Buchenwald Concentration Camp, Germany. It had  provided forced labour to local armaments factories under horrendous conditions. Its first commandant, Karl-Otto Koch, was even arrested, tried and executed by Nazi authorities, 'for incitement to murder and for disgracing both himself and the SS'. After the war, the camp became Soviet  'NKVD special camp number 2' and held Nazis or anti-communist Germans. Thousands of them were buried in mass graves in the woods surrounding the camp.
