Artemisia Gentileschi. Artista formada en el taller de su padre que era seguidor de Caravaggio. El trabajo de Artemisa se diferencia del de otras mujeres por sus obras a gran escala basadas frecuentemente en temas bíblicos o mitológicos protagonizados por «heroínas» o «mujeres fuertes» y también por el tratamiento poco convencional que recibe en sus lienzos la iconografía del heroísmo femenino. Ejemplo: «Susana y los Viejos».

Artemisia Gentileschi (1593 – 1656) was a female Italian Baroque painter in a time when women were not accepted as artists and certainly not even allowed to paint. Today she is now considered one of the most accomplished painters in the generation after Caravaggio and is well known for painting strong minded women from mythology that dominate over men.
