Roma. 1864 white marble on a veined white marble column statue (inc. thin base): 117cm., 46in.Commissioned in 1859 by contessa Marietta Mazuchelli Longo, Lombardi's Ruth was the first of the artist's Old Testament subjects; a series which also included his Rebecca, Deborah, Susanna and Sulamite.

Marble statue of a draped woman. She wears a flimsy chiton over which a himation is draped. The folds of the under garment are carefully conceived. The arms and head were separately made and are now missing. A piece of drapery was separately made at the rear shwoing the overfall of the himation.
