ALEXANDER DUBCEK -- During his first 100 days, Dubček offered the 14,300,000 Czechs a bright vision of their own special road to socialism. For 20 years civil and personal liberties had been squashed. Near total freedom of expression now reigns. Demonstrations of every sort could take place. Dubček threw out the hard lining Antonín Novotný as President in March. The entire transformation had been worked without bloodshed or disorder. . . . TIME, April 5, 1968.
