The front flap (24x24 cm) of this late medieval girdle purse cowhide is slightly larger than the compartment behind it. The discovery came in 1976 from the ground to the Torenstraat in Dordrecht. On pages 18 and 24 of the book Purses in Pieces "Olaf Goubitz the stock market briefly described.

These purses are made from vegetable tanned goat skins that have been dyed using period dyes. They are lined with chamois and are made entirely by hand. The design is based on a figure in 'The Wedding Dance In The Open Air' by Pieter Bruegel painted in 1556. It hangs from a leather cord and is 8 x 6 inches (20 x 15 cms) when open. The main section is wide enough to get your hand inside and the two outer pockets are held closed with their own drawstrings.  £50

It hangs from a leather cord and is 7 x 7 inches (18 x 18 cms) when open. The main section is large and lined with soft chamois leather. There are also four outer pockets.  £85
