Photos: Saturn's Glorious Rings Up Close
Cassini Sees Saturn's Rough and Tumble Rings - This mosaic of the Saturn system, taken by Cassini, glows with scattered light from tiny dust grains. The sun is obscured by the planet in this unusual geometry
Saturn's Hexagon
A New Look at Saturn’s Northern Hexagon - Raw Cassini image captured on 26 Feb. 2013 (NASA/JPL/SSI) Freshly delivered from Cassini’s wide-angle camera, this raw image gives us another look at Saturn’s north pole and the curious hexagon-shaped jet stream that encircles it, as well as the spiraling vortex of clouds at its center. Back in November we got our first good look at Saturn’s north pole in years, now that Cassini’s orbit is once again taking it high over the ringplane.
this is the planet Saturn, and the sun hast cast a shadow of Saturn's rings on the planet!! AMAZING!
WOW: Most Glorious Image Ever Of Ringed Planet?
Saturns: This glorious back-lit photograph--actually a mosaic of images taken in the violet, visible, and near-infrared parts of the electromagnetic spectrum was taken when Cassini was about 500,00 miles from Saturn-- on Oct. 17, 2012, during the probe's 174th orbit around the planet. At the time, the space probe was situated in what space scientists call a "very scientifically advantageous and coveted viewing position"--- peering back toward the sun while in Saturn's shadow. #Saturn #Cassini

Saturn - Windows to the Universe
Saturn - second largest planet; 62 moons; orbit = 29.5 Earth years; rotation = 10h, 32m, 35s; the rings are only 20 meters in thickness

Infrared Image of Saturn's Rings - NASA
Although it may look to our eyes like other images of the rings, this infrared image of Saturn's rings was taken with a special filter that will only admit light polarized in one direction. Scientists can use these images to learn more about the nature of the particles that make up Saturn's rings.
WIRED Space Photo of the Day 2013
Saturn's Colorful Rings by NASA/JPL/University of Colorado via wired.com: Images taken during the Cassini spacecraft's orbital insertion on June 30 show definite compositional variation within the rings. The general pattern is from "dirty" particles indicated by red to cleaner ice particles shown in turquoise in the outer parts of the rings. #Astronomy #Saturn
Saturn - Planet-encircling tempest which started out as a tiny spot but grew rapidly, completely encircling the planet by late January 2011. It eventually extended about 9,000 miles (15,000 kilometers) from north to south before sputtering out in late June. For more info go to www.space.com
