The Bearded Reedling (Panurus biarmicus) is a small, sexually dimorphic reed-bed passerine bird. It is frequently known as the Bearded Tit.This species is a wetland specialist, breeding colonially in large reed beds by lakes or swamps. It eats reed aphids in summer, and reed seeds in winter, its digestive system changing to cope with the very different seasonal diets.

Cotoneaster species - There is a lot of confusion over the botanical names for these magnificent shrubs, so consult your local nursery. Cotoneasters species range from 3-30' tall, with leathery leaves, white springtime blooms, and masses of bright red berries that persist through winter. Many species are evergreen or semi-evergreen through zone 6, and possibly colder. Be careful when buying them as there are many deciduous species available in the NE and, as I said, confusion abounds.
