I write about ukuleles: at http://ukulelehunt.com and in Ukulele for Dummies. Much of this is going to be ukulele-related too.

Gallery Home: Ukulele Showroom » Inlay Art » Headstock of Amy's Mermaid Ukulele

Here's a close-up of the torso of the headstock of my daughters soprano ukulele. Ivory for her torso, red abalone for her bra, Waterfall Bulbinga for her hair to match the back of the uke and lizard recon stone for her tail. Added is a gold mother-of-pearl hook. You can almost hear her saying, "you can't catch me!"

Sailor Jerry was tagged with the name Norman Collins at birth, but he began to distance himself from normalcy when he was 19 (that's why he became a sailor). He traveled around the world, not only getting his first tattoos, but also gaining exposure to the art and imagery of Southeast Asia. This later became a crucial influence when he opened his first tattoo shop in Honolulu's Chinatown, ground zero for swaggering sailors, drunken soldiers and whoever else wasn't afraid to hang around…
