Snowflakes or snow crystals form when ice crystals freeze around tiny particles of dust that are in the air and join together as they fall. Ice crystals that melt as they fall become rain. Ice crystals that form near the ground are called frost.

Frozen Shore Lake Superior

The frozen shores of Lake Superior, Ontario, Canada. In the past winter of 2014 the lake froze and people could walk out to islands that have shore caves. Some say there was no snow inside and through the ice they could see fish swimming!
