Czech nurses assist a wounded member of the Czech Resistance in Prague’s Staré Město (Old Town). The major Czech and Slovak resistance groups consolidated under the Central Leadership of Home Resistance (Ústřední vedení odboje domácího, or ÚVOD).

Czech Resistance fighters with captured German weapons and equipment parade through Prague during the Uprising. On 5 May 1945 Czech police officers burst into the radio station at Vinohradská Street and battled with the SS soldiers who were already occupying the building. The radio announcer, hearing the sounds of fighting, began to encourage the Czechs to rise against the Germans. Resistance fighters in other parts of the city took over the Gestapo and SiPo headquarters.
