AphroChic on Instagram: "Happy birthday @patrickclinephotography. Today, we would have called you. Sung happy birthday to you, and watched you blush over FaceTime. You would’ve told us, again, how much you’re not into birthdays and that it’s no big deal. But we know you always looked forward to the embarrassment and the long talks that followed. We would’ve teased you this year. “Old man.” 48 — only two more years to 50. With all of us so busy that there was never time to talk, calling and embarrassing you on your birthday was always one of our favorite things to do. Even though you’re not physically here today, we still wish you happy birthday, brother. We hope you see the impact your life and your work has had on so many. Your final work is being shared in this book, our last ride together, and people all over the world are falling in love with the images you took. They are feeling seen, represented, they are poring through your imagery and seeing themselves reflected. Your final work was magic, dear friend. You helped us all see the value in our stories and celebrate our many legacies. Best of all you knew it would be like this. You were so excited about this project. You said this was going to happen. You knew this would be special and it is. Bigger than home decor, it’s a gift to the culture. We thank you always for being on the journey with us; for being our creative partner for so many years; for looking honestly through your lens and just shooting what was there. We miss you. But we know that you’re on some grand adventure in the cosmos, seeing something new and amazing and, if possible, finding some way to take a picture of it. We can’t wait to hear all about it one day. Happy birthday Patrick. A photo from our house tour shoot for AphroChic: Celebrating the Legacy of the Black Family Home taken by our dear friend, Patrick Cline. Today would have been his 48th birthday."
