Round tables- great for groups, collaboration and interaction. Top table- much quieter, facing one way, limited interaction or noise. Horseshoe- a focus on the middle, feels like a group/interaction but still limited communication Cake table- individual table, used for mostly SEND or space. How is your setting set out? Do you have a favourite layout? . 🌼My classrooms have always had a mix of tables depending on the children and needs. 13K views · 228 reactions | Ghost letter digraphs! 👻 Ghost letters are silent - you SEE them but you don’t HEAR them.

That’s cool to know, but what’s even cooler is that 31 spelling and phonogram rules explain 98% of English words.

Once you know them, you can teach those rules to your students and help them learn to read 100 times faster than they would if they had to put all the pieces together on their own.💪

But here’s the catch…

Teaching all of those skills is like baking a cake. Skipping ahead or missing a step almost always makes your lessons flop. Students are either too confused, or too overwhelmed, or too bored… And you’re unsure what to try next.

But when you know the best order to teach phonics, it’s like getting your hands on an easy-to-follow recipe. In an instant, it’s Plato, Order To Teach Phonics, Boy Activities, Ghost Letters, Teach Phonics, Baking A Cake, Teaching Phonics, The Catch, Reading Strategies

But when you know the best order to teach phonics, it’s like getting your hands on an easy-to-follow recipe. In an instant, it’s a million times easier (and a million times faster!) than just guessing or using trial and error. You just need to follow it one step at a time! I wanted to make it really easy for you to teach all of the skills to your students so I pulled together a step-by-step scope and sequence you can follow. (It’s the exact scope and sequence we use for all of the lesson plans, literacy centers, and reading passages inside The Science of Reading Formula.👏) 👉 Comment SCOPE below if you’d like me to send it over to you. FIRSTLY - Hit ♥️SAVE to copy the steps later for yourself 😉

🤗I love to make extra large resources in my classroom to make them easier to read for my kiddos / more interactive (like posters!)

Some top tips:
⭐️ Have a 0.05 margin to cut and paste
⭐️ Use glue and support on the back with extra tape
⭐️ Cut out once pieces are all together rather than separate to not accidentally cut off any tabs!

🫶🏼Voila!

👇🏻Have you turned any resource into a jumbo poster? Let me know below 👏

Ps. I meant to say Adobe Reader* is free, not Adobe 😅

Comment “RAINBOW” if you’d like the link to my door display 🌈

💜 Follow me @theyoungeducator for more teacher tips, inspo and resources!

10K views · 3.4K reactions | Many of you have probably heard of the 1-1-1 rule. The rule is if the word has 1 syllable, 1 vowel, and it ends in 1 consonant, you double the final consonant before you add ING, ED, ER, & EST. This is helpful to know but can be a little complicated for kids to remember. So when we were working with my son on doubling letters recently, I remembered seeing this jingle from @braintrusttutors💜 So we have been using this and it’s so helpful! While no jingles or patterns are 100%, this does work most of the time so I have found it helpful to teach. I hope you find it helpful as well! Want this sheet? 8.4K views · 966 reactions | Quick phonics hack!⚡️If the /ow/ sound comes at the beginning of a word (but not before the letters L, N, EL or ER), it’s spelled OU like in OUT and OUCH… If /ow/ is at the end, it’s usually spelled OW like in COW and HOW… But if /ow/ is in the middle, it can be either OU or OW like in LOUD, PROUD, TOWN and BROWN. I’ll walk you through the *exact* order I teach all of the phonics skills (including this one!) AND give you print-and-go lesson plans that take the guesswork out of figuring out HOW to actually teach them inside my 2-hour masterclass called the Science of Reading Made Easy… (Because I firmly believe every training should come with the tools you need to immediately implement what you learn.) someone is writing on sticky notes with the words do you know the 3 sounds of y?
3K views · 214 reactions | By special request, here are the three most common sounds of the letter Y. (Because one sound would just be too easy for our young readers!🤣) 1️⃣ Y says /y/ at the beginning of words like in YES & YELLOW. 2️⃣ Y says /i/ in one syllable words that don’t have any other vowels as in MY & FLY. 3️⃣ Y says /e/ in unaccented syllables like in the words HAPPY & CANDY. Focus on sound #1 to start and add in the next two when students are ready to be stretched. I pulled together a f-r-e-e training walking you through the *exact* order I teach all of the phonics skills (including this one!)
